Born in Havana, Cuba, Jose A. Peralta had a passion for the form. Growing up in a country with landscape, architectural and coastal inspiration,
Jose explored his love and talent for visual arts. In 1956, he attended Escuela Superior de Artes y Oficios, in Cuba, where Jose discovered his
passion for sculpture.

Moving to Florida in 1960 did not change his interests in the arts. Then in 1961 he was drafted by the U.S. Military and served in Germany.
It is in Europe where Jose found new influences in his artistic pursuits.

Jose went on to building a family and a career in Marine Engineering. He designed and developed yachts and is highly respected in the industry.
His passion for original sculpture never died. As a result, Jose pursued an education in art earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Florida
International University (FIU) in 1997. Jose has participated in various exhibitions of his work at Vizcaya, the Big Five Club and the
Art Museum of FIU. His sculptures are also displayed in private collections throughout the US, Latin America, Europe and China.

Throughout the years, Jose was able to travel and explore influences from around the world. He attended courses and training that included
specialized instruction in marble carving in Pietra Santa, Italy. There he worked among local and international artists and technicians that
would ultimately inspired Jose’s work today.

Currently, Jose’s art focuses on sculpture using various natural and synthetic materials such as wood, marble, stone, metal and fiberglass.
Pulling from figurative and abstract schools of thought, his work provokes emotion and communicates the purity of the natural form
and the human body. It is through the movement, lines and aesthetics of these forms that he derives his inspiration.
